Our Founder
SLGCSF is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 organization created in 1994 by a group of civic and community leaders. It establishes and host its inaugural signature event, the St. Louis Gateway Classic Football Game, which draws about 25,000 fans. The 1st Miss Gateway Classic is crowned and receives a one-time $1500 college scholarship Prior to 1998, the STLGCSF made donations to existing scholarship programs operated by other organizations. In 1998, under the leadership of Earl Wilson, The Foundation increases the Miss Gateway Classic Scholarship award from $1500 to $40,000 and establishes its own general scholarship program to administer four-year scholarships to African American youth from the greater St. Louis Metropolitan area. Twelve scholarships are awarded. In addition, The St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation building was constructed in 2002 and open to community groups and event planners. Our downtown location has become the meeting place for important regional discussions and plans to serve the St. Louis Community.
