GATEWAY CLASSIC, AMEREN, MAJIC 104.9 INDUCT TEN INTO BOXING HALL OF FAME

ST. LOUIS (March 10, 2008) – Ameren and Majic 104.9, in association with the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation, honored Albert Fitts, Richard Watts, Craig Aldridge, Dan Fagan, Kevin Lavin, Terry Flynn, Michael Goudeau, Charles Finch, Kevin Bozada and Joseph Mason by inducting them into the Gateway Classic Boxing Hall of Fame during a luncheon held Saturday at the Gateway Classic.

The 2008 honorees, who received their recognition in front of some 300 family and friends, were selected for induction because of their accomplishments in relation to the sport of boxing --- both inside and outside of the ring.  Several of them are former boxers and coaches, others are past and present boxing officials and one, Richard Watts, is a photographer who has devoted his talent to covering boxing matches.  This year’s inductees join a class of more than 120 boxers, coaches and referees who have been inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame since 1994.

“St. Louis has a long tradition of boxing, and this year’s inductees read like a list of who’s who in the St. Louis boxing community,” said Earl Wilson, Jr., president and chief executive officer of the Gateway Classic.  “The careers of these men date back as early as 1950, and some are still involved with boxing today.”

This is the 15th year that the St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation has hosted the annual Boxing Hall of Fame event.  St. Louis civic leader Ida Woolfolk served as the mistress of ceremony for the affair, while Steve Holley, President of St. Louis Amateur Boxing, assisted with the presentation of awards.

The St. Louis Gateway Classic Sports Foundation is a non-profit organization that gives back to the community by way of scholarships, sports programs and community recognition events.  It raises the majority of its funding through ticketed events such as its annual Football Classic held at the Edward Jones Dome each September; and the Foundation partners with companies such as American Family Insurance, Ameren, Sodexo and Aon Corporation for its remaining support.

"For more than a decade, we have supported this great cause because our commitment to our customers and the communities we serve goes well beyond our role as a utility company," said Richard Mark, AmerenUE senior vice president, Energy Delivery.  "We have doubled our level of giving to $100,000 this year because we realize Gateway Classics help ensure a future for youth in our community."
